Une autre des attractions spéciales du Salon de Toronto fut l’exposition commémorative sur le 50e anniversaire du Grand Prix du Canada.
Ayant vu l’expo de l’an dernier sur les 100 ans des 500 miles d’Indianapolis, je m’attendais à avoir quelque chose de similaire.

Another special attraction at the Toronto Auto Show was the commemorative exhibit on the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Having seen last year's expo on the 100th anniversary of the 500 miles of Indianapolis, I expected to have something similar.
LES VILLENEUVE À L'HONNEUR
Il y avait 8 monoplaces à voir dont 2 particulièrement intéressantes du point de vue de l’histoire du clan Villeneuve qui en ont profiter pour nous présenter des photos de leur collection personnelle signée “Villeneuve Automotive Museum”, une nomenclature qui est expliqué sur une autre publication.
HONORING THE VILLENEUVES
There were 8 cars to be seen, 2 of which are particularly interesting from the point of view of the history of the Villeneuve clan who took the opportunity to present us never seen pictures of
their personal collection signed "Villeneuve Automotive Museum", a nomenclature that will be explained on another publication.
COOPER T-51 1961
La plus ancienne des monoplaces exposées est une Cooper T-51 1961, conduite par Bruce McLaren (8e au championnat des conducteur en 1961) représente la période 1961-1966 durant laquelle une épreuve de F1 fut disputé et ne fut pas homologuée.
Ce n’est qu’en 1967, année du 100e anniversaire de la confédération que le Grand Prix du Canada fut officiellement ajouté au calendrier.
COOPER T-51 1961
The oldest one of the single-seaters on display was a 1961 Cooper T-51, led by Bruce McLaren (8th in the 1961 Drivers' Championship), representing the period 1961-1966 during which an F1 race was done in Canada and was not officialised by the FIA.
It was not until 1967, at the 100th anniversary of Confederation, that the Grand Prix of Canada was officially added to the Formula 1 world championship FIA calendar.
PARNELLI JONES,
CO-PROPRIÉTAIRE D'ÉCURIE
Durant les années 70, la Formule 1 affichait un look de voiture à gros pneus et à grosse prise d’air située juste au-dessus du pilote.
La monoplace de l’écurie Vel’s Parnelli Jones, fut confiée à Mario Andretti qui y disputait à son volant, sa première saison complète en Formule 1, terminant en 14e place au championnat des pilotes en 1975.

F1 TEAM CO-OWNER
During the 1970s, Formula 1 had a look of a big-tire car and a big air intake located just above the pilot seats.
The single-seater of the Vel's Parnelli Jones team was entrusted to Mario Andretti, who was racing his first full season in Formula 1, finishing in 14th place in the drivers' championship in 1975.
UNE F1 CANADIENNE
En 1977, une écurie de propriété canadienne fit son entrer dans le cirque de la F1, Walter Wolf Racing.
Son unique monoplace fut confiée aux mains du pilote Jody Schekter.
Il remporta la première course de la saison et le dernier Grand Prix du Canada couru à Mosport en cette même année.
A CANADIAN F1 RACE CAR
In 1977, a Canadian-owned team entered the F1 circus, Walter Wolf Racing.
His only car was entrusted to the pilot Jody Schekter.
He won the first race of the season and the last Canadian Grand Prix raced in Mosport that same year.
QUEL EXPLOIT
La plus mémorable des monoplaces que Gilles Villeneuve eut conduite est la Ferrari 3 F12, celle avec laquelle il a eu sa première victoire en F1.
Villeneuve termina la saison au 9e rang au championnat des pilotes en 1978.
Quelle belle façon de de débuter avec une victoire d’un Québécois sur le nouveau circuit de Montréal!
WHAT A FEAT
The most memorable of the cars that Gilles Villeneuve drove is the Ferrari 3 F12, the one with which he had his first victory in F1.
Villeneuve finished the season in 9th place in the drivers' championship in 1978.
What a great way to start with an all canadian victory over the new Montreal circuit!
SENNA LE MAGICIEN
Première représentante les années 80, la Lotus 99T 1987 conduite par Ayrton Senna, un pilote appelé le magicien, ne sera que l’ombre de ce qu’elle fut en 1986.
Senna terminera la saison en 3e place du championnat des pilotes en 1987.
Le Grand Prix du Canada n’est pas disputé en 1987 dû à une dispute commerciale entre 2 commanditaires.
MAGIC SENNA
First of the the 1980's F1 race cars on display, the Lotus 99T 1987 driven by Ayrton Senna, a pilot called the magician, will only be the shadow of what it was in 1986.
Senna will finish the season in 3rd place of the drivers' championship in 1987.
The Grand Prix of Canada was not run in 1987 due to a dispute between two sponsors.
MANSELL CHEZ FERRARI
Nigel Mansell se retrouvait au volant d’une monoplace de la Scuderia Ferrari en 1989 et 1990.
Ses courses canadiennes se terminèrent disqualifié en 1989 et au 3e rang en 1990 et termine au 4e rang du championnat 1989 et au 5e rang en 1990.
MANSELL AT FERRARI
Nigel Mansell was driving a Scuderia Ferrari single-seater in 1989 and 1990.
His Canadian races ended in disqualification in 1989 and 3rd place in 1990 and finished 4th in the 1989 championship and 5th in the 1990 one.
LE KAISER
1992 vit l’apparition du prochain magicien qu’on appellera le “Kaiser”, un Allemand du nom de Michael Schumacher. Il débarque chez Benneton Ford après un course faite avec l'écurie Jordan Racing.
Une carrière glorieuse s’entamera renportant 2 championnats en 1994 et 1995.
Schumacher termina la course montréalaise en 2e position et monta au 3e échelon du championnat des pilotes de 1992.
THE KAISER
1992 saw the appearance of the next magician who will be called the "Kaiser", a German driver name Michael Schumacher.
He arrives at Benneton Ford after a race with the Jordan racing team. A glorious career began, winning 2 championships in 1994 and 1995.
Schumacher finished the Montreal race in second position and climbed to the 3rd level of the championship of the drivers championship of 1992.
VOITURE CHAMPIONNE EN 1997
La dernière et non la moindre, est la William FW19 avec laquelle Jacques Villeneuve a remporté le championnat des pilotes en 1997.
Villeneuve pris le départ du Grand Prix du Canda en 2e place sur la grille et fut impliqué dans un accident au 2e tour de la course.
1997 CHAMPION F1 RACE CAR
Last but not least is the William FW19 with which Jacques Villeneuve won the drivers' championship in 1997.
Villeneuve took the start of the Grand Prix du Canada in 2nd place on the grid and was involved in an accident during the second lap of the race.

On y voit même l’égratignure laissée par la roue de Schumacher lors du dernier Grand Prix décisif de la saison. Voyez l'incident sur le vidéo à 1:55.

There is even the scratch left by the Schumacher wheel at the last Grand Prix of the season. See the incident on the video at 1:55.
LE TROPHÉE DU GRAND PRIX DU CANADA
Le trophée actuel du Grand Prix du Canada est composé de 8 copies du tracé du circuit Gilles Villeneuve découpés dans une plaque de métal et assemblé dans le sens de la hauteur de manière circulaire sur une base en bois cylindrique.
THE CANADIAN F1 GRAND PRIX TROPHY
The current Canadian Grand Prix trophy is composed of 8 copies of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit layout cut from a metal plate and circularly assembled on a cylindrical wooden base.
CONCLUSION DE MA VISITE
Après avoir vu cette intéressante exposition sur les 50 ans de la Formule 1 au Canada, je ne serais pas surpris de la voir lors du weekend du Grand Prix en juin prochain, ce qui serait à mon avis la meilleure occasion pour que les fans du Québec puissent en profiter!
CONCLUSION OF MY VISIT
After seeing this interesting exhibition on the 50th anniversary of Formula 1 in Canada, I would not be surprised to see it at the Grand Prix weekend next June, which in my opinion would be the best opportunity for Quebec F1 fans to enjoy!
