It was a great day to visit the Syracuse Nationals for their 15th edition of this spectacular event. From early 7:45 am to 6:30pm, one had the pleasure of seeing all kinds of cars, trucks and hot rods.
There were beautiful, elaborate kiosks from large national big rig companies, with multi-coloured product effigies, which travel throughout the US to different events all summer long.
There was something for everyone: transmissions, steering columns, heavy equipment, dashboard gauges…
As far as the cars on exhibit, it ranged from minimalist rat rods to concept cars seen at such events like SEMA, Detroit Autorama, and in many well known US magazines. Hot rods of all kinds were very well represented, as well as muscle cars, both originals and modified versions. There was also a good presence of classic cars restored to varying degrees, and even some survivors showing off their patina.
ALL KINDS OF ACTIVITIES
Also on hand, were parallel events held as special auctions, with some pin stripped items, to more elaborately painted works. Talented pin strippers held symposiums, creating works of art on site, with some interesting special order pieces.
The Antique Alley section displayed original classic cars, as well as period dragsters found in the Gasoline Alley section. One could not forget the Winfield Award; a hot rod concourse, where 6 cars competed for trophies and $15 000 in prizes.
BOOTHS FOR EVERYONE INSIDE
In another large building on the New York State Fairgrounds, one could find many companies offering all kinds of products. Some top cars were on hand to show off all their well polished chrome pieces.
Some celebrities were on hand, such as Candy Clark who played Debbie Dunham from American Graffiti, who was escorted by two flagship cars from the movie.
OVER 7000 VEHICLES TO SEE
The Syracuse Nationals is advertised as the largest car show in the north east, and it fails to disappoint. This event is so big, that it’s impossible to see everything in just one single day, especially with over 7000 vehicles on display!
